Reliable gear as always

I've bought from Black Diamond several times before, mostly climbing gear. This time I got some new C4 Camalots and a set of quickdraws. The quality is consistently excellent, just like my previous orders. They always hold up well. Shipping was standard, took about five days to get to my address in Utah, which is typical for them. I keep coming back because I know I'll get reliable equipment without any surprises. No complaints, it was another smooth transaction.

Decent ski poles, minor issue

I ordered a pair of Traverse ski poles. They feel sturdy and worked well on my last trip. Shipping was okay, took about a week to get to me in Colorado. My only small complaint is that one of the baskets seemed a little loose, but it tightened up eventually. Customer service was responsive when I asked about tracking, so that was a plus. Overall, a solid product for the price, but they could improve on quality control for smaller components.

Thinking about getting one of their climbing ropes. Are they generally considered good quality for serious climbing? Like, compared to Petzl or Sterling?

D Dana J. 3 months ago
BD ropes are solid. I've used them for years and never had an issue. Definitely up there with Petzl in terms of reliability, maybe not as many fancy coatings as Sterling on some models but they hold up.

Yeah, for sure. Black Diamond is a core climbing brand, their ropes are legit. You'll see them everywhere. I'd trust them any day over some of the cheaper brands.

Anyone know how Black Diamond ski boots compare to something like Atomic or Salomon? Looking at a new touring setup.

P Phil J. 3 months ago
BD boots are pretty good, a lot of people like them for touring. They tend to be a bit stiffer than some other brands, from my experience. It really depends on your foot and what feel you like.

They're solid, but definitely try them on if you can. Fit is super personal with boots. I've heard good things about their uphill performance, maybe not as damp on the downhill as some resort-focused boots from Atomic.

Thinking of buying some cams, specifically the C4s. Any real difference in quality between Black Diamond and, say, DMM or Wild Country for similar gear?

E Emma F. 2 months ago
BD C4s are the gold standard for cams, man. You can't go wrong. DMM and Wild Country make great stuff too, but C4s are just classic and super reliable.

They're all top-tier brands for cams. Black Diamond C4s are probably the most popular for a reason, super durable and well-designed. I use a mix of C4s and DMM Dragon Cams, both are excellent.

Does the free shipping over $100 apply to everything, or are there exclusions?

C Cleo E. 2 months ago
AFAIK, if your cart hits that amount, shipping is free. I haven't seen any exclusions specifically listed for that offer.

Pretty sure it's for all orders over a certain amount. I've gotten free shipping on a tent and some smaller stuff combined, so it seems to apply across the board.

what's the return policy like for climbing gear? Say I get a harness and it doesn't fit right, can I send it back easily?

S Sarah M. 3 months ago
Yeah, returns are pretty straightforward, I've done it. Just make sure it's unused. They won't take back anything that's been on a rock.

As long as it's new and still got the tags, you should be fine. I had to return some cams once because I ordered the wrong size, no hassle.
